Kobe, LeBron Lead USA Olympic Team
Once again, checking out the red hot roster for Team USA in basketball, you get that tingly feeling of another gold medal on its way back to American soil. And this Olympic season, the USA team is as good as golden!
The 2012 U.S. Olympic basketball team has been named and you likely have heard of these guys before. The final roster of 12 players was chosen after just two practice sessions and contained few surprises. Team USA will once again be coached by Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski.
Making the team for the third consecutive Olympics was Carmelo Anthony from the New York Knicks and reigning NBA MVP LeBron James. They are the only two players left from the 2004 team that won bronze. These guys have something to prove for sure. The notable athletes not on the team were Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh, Derrick Rose and Dwayne Wade as all are injured in some fashion.
And returning from the 2008 Beijing Olympic team that was the gold medal winner are Deron Williams, Chris Paul and Kobe Bryant. Bryant said the players know what they have to accomplish and what they need to do to secure the gold medal once again.
Other players making the squad were three players from the Oklahoma City Thunder Russell Westbrook, James Harden and league high scorer Kevin Durant. Rounding out the 12 were Blake Griffin, Tyson Chandler, Andre Iguodala and Kevin Love. All 12 players are in the NBA.
The Opening Ceremonies are scheduled for July 27th in London, England. U.S.A. has its first game against France on Sunday, July 29, 2:30 p.m. EST on NBC.
