5 Tips for Terrific Teeth
The good news is that if you have bad teeth, cosmetic dentistry has come a long, long way. But preventing tooth decay and gum disease, you won’t have to even bother with the costly alternative. If you follow The American Dental Association® (ADA) recommendation and change your toothbrush every three to four months and adhere to these important five tips, your choppers will be intact for years to come.
Easy does it. Be careful not to brush too aggressively. I bet the fellas have a hard time with this one. By pressing too hard it can wear away the enamel on your teeth.
Avoid the sweet and sugary stuff. By saying ‘no’ or ‘not so much’ to candy and sugary drinks you can decrease the plaque that constantly forms on your teeth. Save the candy for dessert and then brush your teeth.
Practice good technique. Hold your toothbrush at a slight angle against your teeth and brush with short back-and-forth motions. Brush the inside and chewing surfaces of your teeth, as well as your tongue.
Keep your equipment clean. Always, always, always rinse your toothbrush with water after brushing. Be sure to keep it stored in an upright position, if possible, and allow it to air dry until using it again
Adopt a white-teeth diet. If you’re gulping gallons of coffee very day along with red wine or smoking cigarettes, expect the results to show up. Brush immediately after eating or drinking foods that stain teeth. For a simple teeth-cleaning action, eat an apple.
Remember that you can prevent gum disease and other oral health problems by adopting a regimen that includes dental cleanings and exams — generally every six months. Contact your dentist if you notice any signs of oral health problems, like red, tender or swollen gums or gums that bleed when you brush or floss. These can be signs of advanced decay that require attention.
