One thing every healthy black man has, is control over his finances. The financial health of a person or his family requires discipline and access to good information to make good, healthy financial decisions. Healthy Black Men welcomes Mr. James C. Molet as a regular Contributor in response to the overwhelming positive response to our recent financial series found here, here, and here. He also runs his own website, retirement savvy.net.

Mr. Molet retired in 2005 after serving 21 years in the United States Army, where he had a chance to travel the world and engage with a multitude of people and enjoy incredible experiences.  During the latter part of his career, his interest in personal finance was piqued based on his very own experiences and observations of the way most Americans plan – or more accurately, fail to plan – for retirement and the difficulty many face in starting the process.  During this period he made a concentrated effort to understand key personal finance factors and philosophies.

In the past, he often spoke to family and friends about budgeting, saving, investing, and preparing for retirement. His first book, “RENDEZVOUS WITH RETIREMENT: A Guide to Getting Fiscally Fit,” started as a way to give family and friends a means of verifying the things many people may have discussed; and captures some of the finer points which were part of those family some conversations.

“I am hopeful that others that may be struggling with personal finances find value in its pages.”

The man behind the money knowledge also holds an MBA from Wayland Baptist University. He is also currently enrolled in the Master of Software Engineering (MSE) program at Brandeis University.

Look for a variety of finance related topics from Mr. Molet in the coming weeks and months and he’s also on twitter @ jcmolet. Also, share with us at blackmenshealth@gmail.com any money questions you want answered. We will do our best to connect you to the information you need to make important financial decisions.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our son for helping us get on the right track before retiring. His advise helped us to be get ready to retire. Our only wish is that we had all of the information that’s now available, available then. Maybe it was and we just did not know where to look. I’m sure we would have started preparing earlier.
